July 17-25, 2021 a team of six traveled to the Dominican Republic to assist with eye-care in some of the communities of the Samana Peninsula, located on the north coast. We visited the church in Sanchez which is the first evangelical church that was planted in the country. We had the opportunity to serve about 45 people there and provide them with some groceries to take back to their homes.

Thursday, we went to the city of Samana and worked with the Templo Biblico church. We brought encouragement in the Word and provided eye care to the community, as well as the Gospel. Steve Hopper Jr. and Mesa visited Zoila, the wife of Pastor Gerling, who was traveling at the time. Steve & Toby Hopper and Mesa had ministered at their church during a previous mission. They discussed the elementary school their church started and unfortunately, due to the pandemic and lack of resources, they have had to close the school.

During the July five-day mission trip we had the opportunity to serve more than 200 people. We performed eye exams, provided reading glasses, checked glucose levels and recorded blood pressure. Gilda did a health education class about diabetes and blood pressure the first morning in Sanchez. Joshua Hopper, 15, shared his testimony and served wherever needed during the week and enjoyed interacting with some young Dominican friends. Steve and I shared the Gospel during each morning and we had three wonderful evenings of bible teaching. Katie Larkin shared her powerful personal testimony; Phil Martin spoke about our identity in Christ;Steve Hopper Jr. taught on how to share the Gospel and Mesa spoke on the importance of making disciples. The last morning, Maria, (who had been cooking for us) trusted Christ as her Savior! Praise God!

Our next mission to the D.R. will be in November 2021 with Steve and Toby Hopper, training pastors in the cities of Azua and Las Terrenas.
